Why Umbraco, from a NON Tech Point of View

The Non-Tech Post: What is Umbraco and Why Should I Care?

If you are proud that you even know what CMS stands for, then this is the blog post for you. (I provided a link just in case... no shame.)

If you are in sales and marketing and know the importance of a powerful website, one that is simple for the client and can be easily part of your SEO plan but need to be able to communicate that to your client, then this is the blog post for you.

Or if you are thinking of a new website for your business and need to know what is out there and what questions to ask, then this is the blog post for you.  At ProWorks we make all sorts of websites that are suppose to do all sort of things for all different types of people. This means we have tried many different things over the years.

The solution that we keep coming back to is Umbraco.

What is Umbraco?

It is a free (or open source) content management system (CMS).

Most websites are a bunch of content that need to look and feel certain way and do certain things -- basically content that needs to be managed. How that content can be managed, what can be done with it, how it looks, how well it performs, etc. is often more based on the abilities of the CMS it was created on and not just the skills of the developer.

Why Choose Umbraco?

There are plenty of CMS solutions out there, so, what makes Umbraco so different from a non-techy perspective.

It's powerful

Because it is like a piece of clay, it can be molded and shaped into just about anything from a simple brochure website to a high end e-commerce site with every bell and whistle you can think of. We dare you to find something we can't make Umbraco do. Yes it can do mobile and gaming too. Imagine never hearing "we can't do that".  Think of having a website that is versatile, powerful and changeable enough that it can truly be the hub of a business' online presence and market strategy, whether that be social media, e-commerce, video, etc.

Its simple

Even a user with with limited web experience can navigate the back end or admin portion of the most complex websites, with little to no training. I do not have a strong tech background and one of my first days at ProWorks they asked me to add something to our website. (After my panic attack) I communicated my "reservations" because I assumed that the back end of a web company's website would be very compicated and there would be no way with my little knowledge and training that I could navigate our website. I was shocked when I logged in and saw this...

I was able within minutes to locate what I was looking for and change, update and add to my heart's content.

Its good enough for "them"!

You don't have to take our word for it. Umbraco is used by some of the heaviest hitters in the web world:
