Case Study: Delivering Data Driven Analysis
Introduction
ProWorks has partnered with the global technology
leader Hewlett Packard (HP) to develop a critical
software solution called KEW Analysis. The Kew
Analysis solution is a .NET application developed by
ProWorks to improve the way Hewlett Packard is
able to make data driven business decisions
regarding their inkjet production. KEW provides HP
engineering analysts with the means to rapidly
analyze sampled measurement data to determine if
production specifications are within the required
ranges.
Challenge
Hewlett Packard's evolving inkjet production
processes had outgrown their previous production
analysis solution. A new .NET solution with powerful
database capabilities and customized graphical
reporting was necessary to meet their changing
needs. To address this need, HP partnered with
ProWorks to develop the KEW Analysis solution. HP
selected ProWorks based on their data visualization
expertise and demonstrated ability to rapidly develop
leading edge software.
It was critical to Hewlett Packard that KEW was
delivered quickly and within budget. Operating under
accelerated conditions, ProWorks had to work
closely with HP managers to collect requirements,
design the architecture, present benchmarks and
receive sign-offs in order to ensure a smooth
deployment. Functional requirements included the
ability to import uniquely formatted Excel worksheets
containing cartridge measurement data and
integrate it into a central KEW database. Customized
charts would be needed to communicate this data to
analysts in order to monitor production quality.
How ProWorks Delivered
ProWorks' experience in developing .NET
components and applications made the .NET
framework the logical choice. By utilizing the .NET
framework to develop KEW, ProWorks was able
maintain an accelerated development schedule and
produce robust code in a best-in-class development
environment. ProWorks customized its own
commercial graphing software, Flipper Graph
Control, in order to create the specialized graphs
that allow engineers and analysts to monitor
production quality and consistency.
KEW delivers analysis and monitoring capabilities
by presenting the cartridge measurement data from
the various suppliers in graphical reports.
Customized charts and graphs highlight out of
range dimensions to production analysts and allow
them to compare the measurement results across
multiple suppliers over time. The reports could be
exported as PowerPoint slides and HTML pages to
facilitate communication and collaboration between
Hewlett Packard and its suppliers.
High Quality Solution
The monitoring capacity provided by KEW Analysis
has contributed to the consistent quality of Hewlett
Packard's inkjet cartridges. Utilizing KEW, the
suppliers are able to self-audit the results of their
own manufacturing measurements prior to shipping
the product to Hewlett Packard. The overall
analysis process time was reduced from two
weeks to less than one day.
ProWorks assures the satisfaction of Hewlett
Packard by providing technical support for the
KEW Analysis software. The KEW Analysis project
illustrates ProWorks' aptitude for rapidly developing
important solutions that enhance the ability of
organizations to make better data-driven business
decisions.
